Little Rock–Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals is an animal shelter that provides medical care to and places pets facing impending euthanasia into foster and permanent homes. To date over 3,300 unwanted or homeless pets have been rescued through CARE. The organization has expanded its adoption effort by partnering up with the Arkansas Department of Correction’s Arkansas Paws in Prison program. This program places adoptable dogs from CARE into state prisons for temporary housing, socialization, and training by professionally-supervised inmate trainers. CARE also offers low cost sterilization surgery for cats and dogs that are owned by qualifying low income families. They have helped over 10,000 pets through their spay/neuter efforts. CARE hosts several annual events throughout the year in hopes of attracting potential adopters and volunteers. Thursday May 14 CARE will be hosting their 8th annual Paws on the Runway Dogs and Divas event. THV 11’s own Craig O’Neill will be mc’ing the event and some of the state’s most visible local celebrities will be helping CARE’s pets strut their stuff on the runway.
